精神的疾病似乎有很多的症状，也有不同强度的级别。有的病人完全的失控不能照顾自己；有的听见声音，看见幻觉而在生活中一直被干扰；有的是暂时进到抑郁，带着非常消极与时不时想要自杀的念头；有的人是经历情绪突然间的波动，有的人是到达意志已经被控制的地步。精神病的病状也分成暂时性、阶段性与长久性。当然,长久性需要服药的精神病患者相对来说不多，但我们已经看到这数目倍增的趋势。大多数的人是因遭遇一些环境的冲击，情绪进入暂时性的波动。另外也有好一些人是定期性的进到很消极或忧虑的状态，时不时就会有一些极其无助绝望的想法与感受临到。这是环境的因素造成的吗？还是荷尔蒙不协调带来的？还是那人的心灵过度敏感，很容易受攻击。这些因素都存在但也没有人能肯定。其实到现在没有人能知道精神病的起因。医学界只能将这样的疾病归咎与基因、心理与环境的综合因素。其实，对人类来说，精神病是一个谜。人不知道起因，就没有办法知道解决法。在被这样的问题捆着的人只能相信机会（盼望有一天会好），或是相信医学（药物与辅导的帮助），或是相信家人的爱（起码旁边的人的关怀与忍耐能缓解这病的痛苦）,要不然就是相信创造人的身心灵的上帝了！倘若相信上帝就因当按着神的话语所说的来认识这病症的起因。很明显的，人精神的疾病显示他的思（Mind）和心（Heart）出现了问题。确实，神放在人的生命里最宝贵的东西就是这两样东西。这两者是分不开的，但且是我们用来与那创造万有的神合而为一的工具。神为何给人思维（悟性）？就是要人用这悟性来认识这位创造宇宙独一的真神，也借着认识祂为中心来认识神所创造的我和万有。神为何创造我们的内心（心性）？就是要我我们借着认识神而能够爱祂、亲近祂、凡事信靠祂。所以，神要我们透过「正确的认识」而进到「全心的爱」 –认识神里头的一切真理而能够爱神与重视祂远超过一切。在此，人的心思是结合在一起，且是能最健全的样子。没有任何一个仇敌或环境能毁坏这样的心思。这样的心思反而在各种的消极的环境、疾病、苦难、甚至邪恶的攻击会显出莫大的能力 –不是自己的能力，乃是神透过他的心思里头所彰显出来的能力。在另一个反面，我们且要明白，魔鬼（堕落的天使）也同样有心思。他比我们任何人都知道有关上帝的知识，且知道上帝所造的万物的原理。他比我们任何人都了解对科学、医学、心理学、哲学等有关的知识。但他的心是痛恨神的，且是完全否决神的主权。他的心灵里没有爱，也不能爱，所以他成为了最堕落的被造物。试想，这样的灵是在怎样的心思做工呢？为何他偷窃、杀害、毁坏的工作是能临到人的精神呢？从这里，我们就会对精神病开始有头绪了。首先，当一个人所认识与所爱的对象不是那创造他的上帝时，他的心思已经处在堕落的光景了。他要自己为自己的生命负责。所以，当消极环境的现实冲向他时，他那没有神的心思能够有多少承受力呢？另外，当一个人知道的越多，思维能力越强，但是他的心不爱神，且不信靠这全能的神时，试问他能承受他所知道的现实吗？为何有人说：“这是一个精神病的时代”。为何精神病的现象倍增？为何人的情绪波动得这么厉害？为何年轻一代人这么脆弱？我们会知道当人（透过网络、新闻、各种社交媒体平台）知道得越多，却不喜爱与信靠那创造他们的主，他里头的骄傲与私欲更是折磨他。

Mental illness seems to manifest in many symptoms, with varying severities. Some patients completely lose control and fail to take care after themselves; some hallucinate, and are constantly disturbed by visions; some slip into momentary depression, down with negative thoughts or even random suicidal ideation; some are attacked by the sudden changes in emotions, while some progress to the stage of being seized in their will and determination. Mental illness can also categorized as temporal, periodic, and persistent. Certainly, few are with persistent illness requiring medication, but we have witnessed an increasing trend. Majority of people’s emotions are stirred temporarily when certain environment impact them. Besides, some people enter into pessimism or depressive states periodically, and they have this great sense of helplessness and hopelessness coming upon them. Are these caused by the environment? Do we attribute it to hormonal imbalances? Or the person’s spirit is over sensitive and is easily attacked? All these factors are present but no one has certainty. Till date, no one knows the cause of mental illness. The medical world attributes it to genetics, psychology, or environmental factors. However, to human, mental illness remains a mystery. Man does not know the cause, and thus they cannot solve it. People who are trapped in this issue can only find hope in chance (hoping one day they will be healed), or in medicine (helps from drugs and counseling), or believe in the love from family members (at least, the care and endurance of the people around us can ease the pain of the illness); if not, they have to believe in the God who creates human’s body, mind, and soul! If we believe in God, we ought to learn about the cause of this illness through God’s Word. Obviously, mental problems reveal the issues of the mind and heart. Indeed, the most precious things God has put in men’s lives are these two. They are inseparable, but they are tools which we use to connect to God the Creator of all. Why does God give us thinking (rationality)? So that through their rationality, man can know the true God who created the universe, and through Him know ourselves and all things, who are all God’s creations. Why does God create our inner heart (mentality)? So that through knowing God, we can love Him, draw near to Him, and rely on Him in all things. Therefore, God wants us to enter into [wholehearted love] through [true knowledge] of Him – know all the truths in God and thus love God and value Him above all things. Herein, the mind and heart of a person are one, and this is the healthiest. No enemy or environment can destroy such heart and mind. Such state of heart and mind can demonstrate utter great power in various negative environment, illness, trials, or evil attacks – not the strength of our own, but the power that God manifests through the heart and mind within him. But the flip side is, we need to understand, devil (fallen angels) also have heart and mind. They know better than us about the knowledge of God, and the principle behind the creation by God. The devil is more familiar with science than we do, as well as medicine, psychology, or philosopphy etc. But he hates God extremely in his heart, and completely denies the sovereignty of God. He does not have love in his spirit, neither can he love, therefore, he becomes the most fallen creation. Try thinking, how does such spirit work in the heart and mind? Why does his work of stealing, killing, and destroying come upon human’s mind? From here, we start to have some idea about mental illness. Firstly, when God the Creator is not the subject to whom one seeks to know and love, his heart and mind are already in a fallen state. He is accountable to his own life. Therefore, when negative environment and reality attack him, how can that heart and mind that does not have God endure the attack? Besides, the more a person knows, the stronger is his thinking, but if he does not love God in his heart, nor can he depend on this almighty God – will he be able to endure the reality he now comes to know? Why do people say, “this is an era of mental problems”? Why does mental illness multiply? Why are people greatly stirred in their emotions? Why are people of the younger generation so vulnerable? If we do not love or depend on the Lord who created us, the more we know (through Internet, news, various social media platforms), the pride and selfish desires within us will torture us all the more.
