一个重生悔改的基督徒，最起码是会盼望自己所爱的家人也能够重生得救，因为这不是他们接受不接受一个宗教的问题，乃是他们进入永生或永死的问题。因这缘故，当我们的家人迟迟不得救时，我们有时就会感到有所无助，特别是当我们看见他们生活的表现离救恩的门越来越远，我们不禁为他们感到忧伤。那时，我们的人性是自然找寻很多家人不信主的理由 –例如：他们不开通、他们非常属肉属世、他们受其他不信主的家人影响、他们还在拜祖先（或偶像）、他们曾经受过一些基督徒亲友的伤害、等。或者有时我们也因家人不信主的原因责怪我们自己，认为自己没有好见证或是没有与家人花更多时间在一起。现在也有另一种的看法说主的时间会到，所以不需要焦急，但他们在“不焦急”中毫无向家人作见证的举动。当然，我们人都有分析力，以上所提“家人不信主”的说法都有他的道理。我们不能否认偶像、环境与人的因素带给我们家人的影响。但我们一定要明白在这些种种拦阻他们的理由中，神能拯救他们，也要借着我们的祷告来拯救他们。倘若神的恩典临到，没有一个理由能够阻挡人信主，但神往往却是要透过我们的祷告而施行他的救赎，好叫我们与祂同得冠冕。所以，我们不能否认拯救家人是需要神的恩典，但我们也不能推卸向家人传福音的责任。神的应许在《徒16:31》是带有神的恩典，且有人的责任。若我们真信了主耶稣，圣灵必要在我们心里动工运行，使我们立志为着家人的救恩祷告，且寻找各种途径向他们作见证。神的应许是实现在真信之人的所愿与顺从中。但是，在我们家人还未信主之前，我们要晓得如何为他们代祷。特别，我们的代祷要带有两方面。首先，我们尽可能多认识家人为何还不信主的理由。以上所提的种种家人不信主的分析和理由是需要的。这也显明我们是不断的将家人的救恩放在我们的祷告中。但是，我们也要谨慎不能让这些理由成为阻碍我们信心的因素。相反的，我们因为知道了这些理由之后，要将希望放在主。这就是我们另一个代祷的因素，就是要带有盼望。盼望使我们不断的代祷，就是家人更加刚硬反而会促使我们更加的依靠主，如同保罗为他的骨肉之亲的救恩大有忧愁与伤痛。但他不因家人还不信主而陷入低谷里。相反的，他心里带有盼望，且继续为他的亲族（以色列族）代祷。所以，我们不可因知道（家人刚硬的理由）而灰心，乃是要因知道而靠主，这就是我们确信应许的盼望了。特别，当家人迟迟不信主，盼望是非常重要的。盼望使我们不断的呼求主，像那《路18:1-18》不放弃求伸冤的寡妇。乔治穆勒牧师也曾经用52年为着5位朋友的救恩祷告，他们后来都信了，且有两位是他过世后才信的。所以，我们当继续祷告，且确信神会在我们所爱的人身上动工。圣经里也有那在主耶稣钉十字架旁边的强盗的例子。他在临终前悔改得救《路23:43》。在亚伯拉罕继续为那处在索多玛的罗得代求时，他捉着了神的应诉说：“审判全地的主，岂不行公义吗？”神之后果真拯救了罗得。有时，我们家人的救恩是一个谜。但我们当选择相信神的应许而遵从祂的旨意，为家人的救恩一直的祷告到底。让我们不要因为没有看见显著的果效或是担心家人拒绝我们而放弃为他们祷告。我们要晓得家人每一次有机会听道福音，每一次踏入教会，每一次得到主内肢体的关怀都是圣灵动工的途径。我们不要体贴自己的软弱而眼睁睁的看不信主的家人走进坟墓。就算他们最终没有明显的表示他们信主而离开，起码我们能告诉自己我们已经遵从了主的旨意，尽心尽力的为他们祷告，且将福音传给他们。这就是一个真为家人的救恩代祷的心态。

A born-again Christian, at the very least, will hope that the family he loves will be saved. This is not a matter of whether the family accepts his religion, but whether they will enter eternal life or death. Because of this reason, when our family members are still not saved, we will sometimes feel helpless, especially when we see that the way they live is further and further from the door of salvation, we cannot help but feel sorrowful. At those times, our human nature will find many reasons to explain why do they do not accept Christ: e.g., not open, carnal and worldly, influenced by other non-believing relatives, still performing ancestor worship (idols), past hurts by Christian friends or relatives, etc. Or sometimes we will also blame ourselves when our family has not accepted Christ, thinking that it is because we do not have good testimony or have not spent enough time with them. There is also another mindset that the Lord has His timing and so there is no need to worry. But in their state of “not worrying” they do not bear witness for God. Of course, we all have the ability to analyse and all the reasons for “family not accepting Christ” are valid. We cannot deny the influence of idols, environment and people on our family. But we must also understand that despite all these reasons, God can save them, and God will save them through our prayers. When the grace of God has come upon a person, no reason can stop a person from believing the Lord. However, God often wants to save them through our prayers, so that we can share in the crowns. Therefore, while we cannot deny saving our family is dependent on the grace of God, we cannot pass the responsibility of evangelising to our family to God. God’s promise in <Ac 16:31> involves God’s grace and man’s responsibility. If we truly believe Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit must work in our hearts, so that we can resolve to pray for our family salvation and seek all kinds of channels to bear witness to them. God’s promise is fulfilled in the desire and submission of one who truly believes. However, when our family has yet to accept the Lord, we must know how to intercede for them. Specifically, our intercession must have two aspects. First, we should try to understand the reasons why they have not accepted the Lord. The analysis and reasons mentioned above are necessary. This reveals that we are always putting our family salvation in our prayers. However, we must be careful not to let these reasons become barriers in our faith. On the contrary, because we know these reasons, we must put our hope in the Lord. This is the other component of our intercession, that is, to have hope. Hope compels us to pray unceasingly. The more hardened our family is, the more we rely on the Lord. Just as Paul had great sorrow and unceasing anguish for his people, those of his own race, but he did not sink into depression because they had not accepted the Lord. Instead, he had hope in his heart, and continued to pray for his people (Israelites). Therefore, we must not lose heart from understanding (reasons why our family is hardened), but from the understanding, we rely on the Lord. This is the hope that comes from confirming the promise. Especially, when the family has persistently not accepted the Lord after a long time, hope is very important. Hope tells us to call onto the Lord unceasingly, like the persistent widow in <Lk 18:1-18>.  Pastor George Mueller used 52 years to pray for the salvation of 5 friends. In the end, they all believed in the Lord; two of them accepted Christ after he had passed on. Therefore, we must continue to pray, and be assured that God will work on the lives of those we love. In the Bible, there is also the example of the thief beside Lord Jesus on the cross. In his last moment, he repented and was saved <Lk 23:43>. When Abraham was interceding for Lot who was in Sodom, he held onto God’s promise, “Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?” In the end, God indeed saved Lot. Sometimes, our family’s salvation is a mystery. However, we must choose God’s promise and obey His will, to pray for our family till the end. Let us not give up praying for them when we do not see visible change or fear their rejection. We must know that every opportunity for our family to hear the gospel, step into the church, be cared for by brethren are channels where Holy Spirit is working. We must not gratify our own weakness and watch our families walk into their graves. Even if they depart without clear sign that they have accepted the Lord, at least we can tell ourselves we have obeyed the will of the Lord, prayed for them with all our heart and strength, and have given the gospel to them. This is the genuine attitude of a person who is praying for family salvation.
