The Holy Spirit brings the gospel to the World through imperfect men. <Lk1:1-4;Ac1:1-2;Ac2:38-39;Ac4:12>
1. The Bible only has one book that has records on the early church - Book of Acts.
2. The Book of Acts reveals the reality of churches in every era.
1) Should model after the early church, yet be careful not to over-beautify her.
2) We must recognise the real problems within the early church.
3) But the truth is: The church is built by Christ, and also kept and used by the Holy Spirit to witness to the world.
3. Introduction to Book of Acts.
1) Author.
2) Time and background of writing.
3)Authenticity and reliability.
3. The reader of Luke was most excellent Theophilus (high official in Roman empire).
1) Luke wrote with the identity as a Christian citizen
* Christianity is harmless, innocent and lawful..
2) Luke wrote with the identity as a Christian preacher.
* Christianity talks about God's salvation:
① Salvation is prepared by God.
② Salvation comes from Christ.
③ Salvation is given to all men, that is those called by God.
3. Must be careful when interpreting and applying the Book of Acts.
1) Unique incidents (happened once without repetition).
2) Distinguish between contents to teach versus narrative contents (must receive life, not learn methods).
