Saul Received the Ministering of Ananias

Introduction:

* Saul would become an apostle greatly used by God in future.

* But God used an insignificant disciple, Ananias, to lay hands to pray for him, baptise him and feed him.

* Why did God use Ananias?

1God does not use great men to accomplish great things.

2God valued Ananias’ life of obedience to the Lord.

Read <Ac 9:10-19>

1. <v10> Why did God appear to Saul in Damascus?

* Because in Damascus, there was a disciple named Ananias.

* Ananias not only laid hands to pray for Saul, but he was also the person who brought Saul into church brethren relationship.

2. <v11-12>

1God gave Ananias very detailed instructions about what he was to do.

1Where you should go

2What you would see

3What you should do

* In very challenging matters, God will give us detailed instructions.

2Furthermore, Saul was also praying. What would he be probably praying about?

1Kept repenting (and being contrite) for his sins

2Sought to understand how the Lord wanted him to submit next

3Praised God for having received His mercy

* Here, he also saw in a vision that Ananias would lay hands on him.

3. <v13-14> How Saul’s past persecution of the church made Ananias struggle.

4. <v15-16> God’s response:

1Saul was God’s chosen instrument

2How God intended to use Saul

3How God would refine Saul

5. <v17-19> How did Ananias minister to Saul?

1Addressed him as “Brother Saul” (Saul had a new relationship)

2Told Saul that he was sent by Lord Jesus

3So that Saul might see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit

4Baptised him (satisfied his spiritual need)

5Gave him food (satisfied his physical need)

6Brought him into church living (joined a new relationship)
