“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us”<Heb12:1>. This verse is very beautiful. A few truths are revealed through this short verse: the various burdens we encounter have been experienced by many people before. Although people leave this world, their lives never end. The various burdens and sins can be overcome. The race marked out for us, is not one that we run alone. We definitely have to run a race of sanctification. Although we will meet many people who can help us along the way, Satan’s attacks are not few. Moreover, as we walk closer each day towards the day of the second coming of the Lord, Satan’s attack become more and more compact and evident. One of the attacks is that Satan often caused believers not to be able to enter into effective prayers. If we do not go into real prayers, although we may be praying, we are in fact not praying. This is because there is no difference before and after prayers. To enter into real prayers, we need to understand three things: (1) We need to pray; (2) We need to pray spiritually (3) Prayers will bring about practical outcomes. When believers cannot enjoy prayers, their hearts and spirits get busier and busier, and also more hardened. Hence , we find it harder and harder to do things that benefit us or things we ought to do. For example, we find it harder and harder to hear the voice of God, we find it harder and harder to give thanks, hard to love the people whom God loves etc. On the contrary, it is easier to do what we should not do. For example, we worry, lose focus and grumble more and more easily, etc. We cannot measure the extent of busyness of a person’s heart and spirit with his environment, culture or the pace and rhythm of his life. This is because this is a spiritual problem. Hence, if we want to fight a good battle, we have to run the race marked out for us by adhering to the word of God that we believe, and our prayers must be effective.
