如果用一个字来形容圣灵纯全性的工作,那就是“超自然”。若是超自然,那就是摸不着,看不到也听不见的。这就如主耶稣在《约3:8》形容圣灵的工作说:“风随着意思吹,你听见风的声音,却不晓得从哪里来…”这里所说“声音”本是指那能够听见与感悟的,但确实那已经是现象了。另外所说的“意思”本是看不见的,本是无人能参透的神的旨意。这里头包含了神的预定、拣选,或可说是恩典。所以,若我们看见一个人决志信主,将信心放在主耶稣,那已经是看得见的事情了。但是,这人在灵里被重生的那原先的意思,是没有人能预测得到的。其实,这不仅是重生之事而已,就是圣灵在万事的运行与带领也是如此。当祂将一个意念放在祂仆人心中,当祂将能力赐给一个完全无能的信徒,当祂兴起与衰微一个君王与新的时代,我们能预料得到吗?我们能领悟出一个何以为然吗?在圣灵的工作上,我们人都是事后诸葛亮,在我们的沉睡里被点醒,在我们的有限里被坚强。但若是这样,谁是那真正认识圣灵,能享用他最大的能力的呢?就是那借着认识神所启示的真理来生发新的感悟,以此来顺着圣灵行的人。所以从此而言,若我们的心里不懂得何谓心灵的新样,或是用人性的感悟来要经历超自然的主,我们便会落入限制或是更加误解圣灵工作的光景。这都是历史历代信徒犯上的错。就如同,因信称义不在于我们,乃是圣灵在祂恩典里施行的救赎所带来的,我们也不要以我们的人性来造出我们对圣灵的认识与经历。确实,感觉与现象都会欺骗我们。确实,在得救的事上与得着能力的事上,很多信徒总是要捉的是感觉与现象,结果就是捕风捉影而已。但是,真赐个我们的(真理和圣灵的帮助)却是长久不变的。特别,当现今世代邪恶,各种的灵(假先知所带来的)已经出来了(象征:无底坑上来的兽已经上来了《启4:7》),我们更是要从真理有根有基的认识与经历圣灵。若没有真理,判断的标准何在呢?谁说人数多的教会就有圣灵大能的工作?谁说外在彰显的恩赐与能力就是圣灵的大能?谁说听道泪流满面就是被圣灵感动?谁说心里感到激动与迫切就被圣灵充满?谁说挣扎与忧伤就没有圣灵的大能?谁说当信徒卧病在床上或是遇到苦难时就毫无圣灵荣耀的彰显?我们不要以世界的风潮与我们堕落的文化想象出圣灵的工作。当然,我们也不能说人平穷、疾病、失败、无能无力的样子就是圣灵的工作。但我们一定要从真理(神的说明书)来认识圣灵的工作,之后我们必定要透过经得起的考验来认识圣灵的工作,这就如同患难生忍耐,忍耐生老练,老练生盼望,盼望(因圣灵的爱大大的浇灌与坚强人心),所以不至于羞耻。试想,人的患难怎能达到这地步呢?人在患难中一般上都是受众人的耻笑、可怜、施舍等,怎能会不羞耻呢?被关在监狱的保罗怎能不羞耻呢?他身上有根刺不除去怎能不羞耻呢?他立志为善却行不出善时怎能不羞耻呢?确实,圣灵所浇灌的爱使他在各种患难与软弱中生出了他从来没有的特性(那从天上而来的老练与盼望),因此圣灵超自然的能力将同时会叫更伟大与意想不到的事发生,如同人心被感动归向主、福音大大被广传、荣耀的见证留给后来时代,使荣耀归给主。
If one word is used to describe the complete work of the Holy Spirit, that will be “supernatural”. If it is supernatural, it is untouchable, invisible, and cannot be heard. This is like how Lord Jesus described the work of Holy Spirit in <Jn 3:8>, “the wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going…” The “sound” refers to that which can be seen or sensed, but that is already a phenomenon. Another “meaning” is the will of God that is invisible and cannot be thoroughly understood. In this, it includes God’s predestination, election, or it can also means grace. Therefore, when we witness a person resolves to believe in the Lord, putting his trust on Lord Jesus, this itself is a visible matter. However, the rebirth in the spirit is what happens first, but no one can predict that. Actually, it does not limit to matters of born again only, but also how the Holy Spirit is working in all things, and His leading. When He puts a thought in the heart of His servant, when He bestows power to a completely powerless believer, when He raises and abolishes a king and a new era, can we predict all these? Can we make sense of all these? Regarding Holy Spirit’s work, we only know it retrospectively, as we are being awakened from our deep sleep, and strengthened in our limitations. If such is the case, who can truly know the Holy Spirit and enjoy His great power? That will be the person who extends new discovery and experiences Holy Spirit through the revealed truth of God. In view of this, if our hearts do not know what is the new way of the Spirit, or use our human senses to experience the transcendent Lord, we will fall into restrictions or have deeper misunderstanding towards the work of Holy Spirit. This is the error committed by believers through history. Just as justification is not from our effort, but Holy Spirit executing redemption by His grace; we should not assume that we can create an understanding and experience of Holy Spirit through our humanity. Indeed, feelings and circumstances often deceive us. In the matters of salvation and receiving empowerment, many believers often hold onto feelings and circumstances, in the end, they receive nothing. But what the Truth gives us is everlasting and unchanging (Truth and help of Holy Spirit). In particular, when the days are evil today, various spirits (false prophets) have emerged (symbol: the beast from the abyss <Rev 4:7>). We need to be grounded in knowing and experiencing Holy Spirit from the Truth all the more. Without Truth, what is the basis of discernment? Who says the church with greatest number has the great work of Spirit? Who says the external manifestation of gifts and power are great power of Holy Spirit? Who says it is Holy Spirit conviction when a person tears when listening to the Word? Who says one is Holy Spirit-filled when he is touched in heart and have earnestness? Who says there is no great power of Holy Spirit when one struggles and is sorrowful? Who says there is no glorious manifestation of Holy spirit when a believer is ill and bed-ridden? We cannot imagine the work of Holy Spirit by the waves of the world and our fallen culture. Certainly, we cannot say when a person is poor, ill, defeated, powerless, and strengthless, these are works of Holy Spirit. But we surely need to know the work of Holy Spirit through the Truth (God’s manual), and then know His work through tests and trials given us. This just like how suffering gives rise to endurance, endurance gives rise to character, and character gives rise to hope, and the hope (the love of Holy Spirit showers into our hearts overwhelmingly and thus strengthens our hearts) will not put us to shame. Lets ponder, how can one’s suffering attain such a level? Usually in suffering, people only receive the smirks, compassion, mercy etc from others, how can it be unshameful? How can the imprisoned Paul be unashamed? How can the lingering and unremovable thorn on himself be unshameful? How would he not be ashamed by the fact that he willed to do good but failed to carry it out? Indeed, the love showered upon him by Holy Spirit gave birth to an attribute ( the character and hope from heaven above) in him which he had never had before, through the various suffering and weaknesses. Therefore, the supernatural power of Holy Spirit will lead to greater and more unimaginable things, e.g. how a man’s heart is touched and turned towards the Lord, the gospel is greatly preached, glorious testimonies for future descendants, giving all glory to the Lord.
