God gives man absolute freedom and joy in Christ so that man’s spirit is not bound by anything. Therefore, when a person’s heart is full of God’s love and grace, his focus is not whether he can carry out the law, he also does not develop sinful thoughts (even if it comes, it will go away quickly). Such a person’s life is always in grace and loving kindness and he enjoys the grace that God gives him every day. On the other hand, the devil’s temptations often cause people to lose their freedom, asking them to live by “relying on the law”, and look at whether they themselves have “met the demands of the laws, rules, and standard”. However, this turns a person’s heart and mind away from the great love and grace of God. When a person’s spirit fails to see the Helper/Guide, he naturally acts by his flesh in all things, and not by looking more at the gracious hand of the Holy Spirit. In short, the forces of darkness will turn the heart of a son in man into a heart of a slave, making man unable to live in grace, but be burdened and weary. So, in <Ga 4:6> : “Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father”. Actually, after we received grace, the thing we must take note of most is whether we often guard and rely on the “spirit of sonship” to live. If a believer lives by relying on the spirit of sonship, there will be clear evidences in his life like freedom, joy, power in all things, achieving more with less. The heart of a slave will bring about gradual loss of freedom, joy and grace in the heart. In his acts and behaviour, he will somehow rely on the flesh, often feel accused and accuse others. Since we have received Christ’s grace and the spirit of sonship, we must often be alert in our spirits, and not be easily taken captive. Especially as we are living in an independent, free, highly educated and busy society, we must be cautious not to lose the heart of a son. However, the heart of a son is not one which is lazy and slow, just waiting for God, but one which is sharply receiving the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This is when the Galatians first heard the gospel from Paul, they were filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, thanked Paul, hosted him enthusiastically, and zealously learned, received, be equipped with and lived out the Word they heard. But after the Galatians lost this heart, they relied on observing the law. Paul then rebuked them in love, so that they could restore the heart of a son.
