人离开了那一位父,一位主,都生长于堕落的根,本为自我。这根也造成人之间的一道隔墙。事实上,当两人来自不同背景,拥有不同信念,隔膜的灵是自然在其中动工。在一个社会里,我们常常看见人的贫富之差、种族宗教的不同、学历的差异、理念的区别等都带来人彼此厌恶,以致无法相处。民主制度与社会学者虽然常提倡人要彼此容忍、学习相处、保持和谐等,但试问人的道德与理念真能带来合一吗?这是压制的忍耐,还是真实的爱呢?在教会里,我们也常会看见不同背景、文化、学历、条件、年龄层的人无法这么容易相处在一起。在整体教会界里,我们也看见宗派之间无谓的相争。在以弗所教会里也存在着犹太与外邦信徒的纷争,这都来自两组信徒在背景、风俗、生活方式大有差异。但最主要是犹太信徒还仍然不明白律法的精义,紧捉着律法的规条。这律法和仪文在许多方面使犹太人成了一种与众不同的民族。尤其当他们不认识基督之爱与上帝要拯救万民的心肠,他们怀着的律法观念带来他们向外邦人总有歧视与敌意。事实上,犹太人与旧约的以色列人始终留在一个‘神民’观念。当神在旧约禁止以色列人与外邦人的来往同婚,甚至将律法给予祂的子民,好与外邦分别,这本不是叫他们因风俗、文化、习惯等不同而敌对外邦,乃是要敌对那不信不爱神的人群(生命)。神在旧约将外邦人看为肮脏与污秽是因他们的心不圣洁(不信神的公义慈爱,不受割礼之心),并不在于他们的作风和外貌(例如:生活习惯不干净、样子低俗丑陋、吃某些不洁净的食物等)。在特殊例子,我们也看见神高举明白律法精义,就是爱神爱人的外邦人,例如:喇合与全家、路德、约伯、乃缦元帅、各尼流等。这些人都是得救的外邦人,与以色列成为一家。所以,基督的宝血讲明了神的心意,就是神来拯救属于祂的子民,使那按血肉说是犹太人或外邦人的都得着一个灵,得以来到父面前。
When man is separated from the one Father, the one Lord, he grows from a fallen root, and becomes self-centered. This root also creates a wall between men. Actually, when two persons come from different backgrounds and have different beliefs, the spirit of estrangement will naturally work between them. In a society, we often see the income gap, differences in religious beliefs, academic qualifications and ideologies causing mutual resentment and inability to get along. Although the democratic system and the sociologists often advocate that men should be tolerant with one another and learn how to get along and maintain harmony, ask yourself, can man’s morals and ideologies really bring unity? Is this suppressive tolerance or true love? In church, we often see that people from different backgrounds, cultures, educational levels, conditons, ages are not able to get along so easily. Between the churches, we also see meaningless rivalry between different denominations. In the Ephesian church, we also see conflicts between Jews and the Gentiles. This is due to the backgrounds, cultural and lifestyle differences between the two groups of believers. But the main reason is that Jewish believers were not able to understand the spirit of the law and still held onto the ordinances of the law. This law and the written code cause the Jews to become a very different race. Especially, when they do not understand the love of Jesus and the heart of God to save all nations, their beliefs of the law made them view the Gentiles with enmity and discrimination. Actually, the Jews and the Israelites of the Old Testament retained the concept of ‘God’s people’. When God in the Old Testament forbade Israelites to interact and intermarry with Gentiles, even to the extent of setting laws so that His people were set apart, God did not mean to ostracise them because of differences in customs, cultures and habits, but God is opposing people (lives) who do not believe or love God. God, in the Old Testament, saw the Gentiles as unclean because they were not holy in their hearts (did not believe in God’s righteousness and love, had uncircumcised hearts), not because of their actions or appearance (example: unclean living habits, ugly appearance, consuming certain unclean food). In some special examples, we also see God raising up Gentiles who understood the spirit of the law, loved God and men, like Rahab and family, Ruth, Job, General Naaman, Cornelius, etc. These were Gentiles who were saved and were one family with Israel. Therefore, the precious blood of Jesus reveals the heart of God, that He has come to save His people, so that whether one is Jew or Gentile biologically, he can receive the same spirit to come before the Father.
