Whenever God’s earnest will is about to fulfill (whether it is in a family, region or era), He will do it through some people who saw that will, recognized the importance of that will, then walk in a (difficult) path of submission with regard to that will. In today’s scriptures, Paul said, “I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus, pray for the sake of you Gentiles”. This is not simply lip service, nor was it said out of human passion, but because Paul saw the truth (the will that God will surely fulfill), his heart could not run away from the calling of that will, thus he committed his life and made that statement. Today, many belivers, rely on feeling as they follow the Lord, or they carry a kind or zealous heart to serve God, yet they have never really taken the one and only path for the sake of the gospel. Actually, when our life still have two paths, we cannot fully grasp God’s will (God’s heart). Even if we know God has a will, we cannot feel God’s earnestness in our hearts. Even if we have been through much twists and turns and rough roads for the sake of gospel, we also cannot connect what we encountered with the gospel, but we feel miserable instead. When we see Paul being imprisoned, he did not say, “I became a prisoner of Rome”, nor did he say, “I became imprisonsed because I evangelize to the Gentiles”, but he said, “I became a prisoner of Christ Jesus”. This proves that Paul was clearly aware of the reason of his imprisonment before God, which is, to be imprisoned out of submission to Christ. Today in the church, believers have 3 different attitudes towards suffering. One attitude is merely finding satisfaction in the carnal benefit and blessings that Christ gives, but not being willing to be a prisoner of Christ (walk in the path of suffering). The second attitude is not seeing that the various harships in the path of faith is due to being imprisoned for the sake of Christ, but only think that the suffering are created by man, environment of ourselves. Such believers can only go through hardships for nothing, having no assurance in their hearts, and they are also unable to experience the life of rejoicing harvest. However, the last type of believers is not only willing to suffer for God’s will, but also able to see the glory of that suffering. In fulfilling the will of God, their heart has the strength to overcome that suffering, and they experience the help of the Holy Spirit in the midst of prayers. Such believers will not see suffering as shameful, but as glorious. Therefore, they are glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and they receive the greatest grace from God. Their whole lives not only can enjoy the promise of being more than conquerors, but their life testimonies will also pass on generation after generation, bringing the benefits of the gospel to many people.
