Today, the greatest conflict between men is probably not nation rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. Rather, it’s because the love relationship that ought to be natural has deteriorated and become unnatural and strenuous. Therefore, when a man uses myriad methods and counseling to resolve spousal relationship, he ends up in greater ironies. Actually, we do not need to look at the inhumane society to realize that love does not exist in this world, but through the attitudes that a couple has for one another, we realize the deficiency and metamorphosis of love. Indeed, loving one another is easy, but due to man’s spiritual problem, it causes a couple [unable] to love another, [do not know how to] love one another and [seek ways] to love one another. In actual fact, the love between a couple is meant to be (1) natural; (2) complementary; (3) a source of blessing. These three ways of spousal relationship are revealed through the love between Christ and His church. Firstly, we need to first understand that love itself is natural (not by force), a voluntary conviction received in the heart and it’s conferred by the source of love (Holy Spirit). This enables a couple to love, respect, protect and satisfy one another naturally. Love itself is not driven by conditions and fear. Therefore, when a couple loves one another in Christ, they will increasingly discover that love does not require any reasons and this love stems from the heart given by the Holy Spirit and not from fondness and any factors. Hence, we must know that the Holy Spirit is alive, it will not let a couple remain in infatuation, but rather it brings about actions within the heart. For example, in a busy day, when a married couple faces challenges in their spousal living, Holy Spirit continuously gives both a heart of “helping one another”. Even in times when the other party is weak and foolish, Holy Spirit gives me a heart to ‘put myself in his/her shoes’, to understand, protect and help my spouse. The love between a husband and his wife can be seen through their chemistry. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, when a married couple loves one another, they mutually will be moved and receive help from one another. Such love will indeed glorify God, be seen by the angels and move them to work in bringing the beauty of this love and relevant testimony to all people that through this married couple, many will see the love of Christ in this cruel world. Therefore, in conclusion, the conjugal love between a husband and wife in Christ is not the perfect ideals depicted in a fairytale, but rather Holy Spirit first bestowed Christ love upon the couple, convicts them according to the truth (husbands give themselves up, wives submit to their husbands) and guide their spousal living. Therefore, both of them must definitely understand and sense the help from the Holy Spirit. We must now first receive the word of God as the truth and thereafter understand the help from the Holy Spirit. Do not be discouraged and resist the truth in this area because of your marital problems today.
