人的行为重要吗?人的条件重要吗?有的人将这些当做尊贵与蒙福的标准,有的人完全否定这些的需要与用途。但神的话究竟在这方面要我们得着怎样的眼光呢?事实上,人的行为与条件绝不能成为人在神面前蒙恩蒙福的标准,因为人是全然因神的恩典得以称义,也借此恩典不断的成圣《1:6》。确实上,人的蒙恩得救、有信心、有热心、有爱心、有智慧、等都是来自那施恩者,是祂在圣徒心中运行,使他们立志行事成就神的美意《2:13》。因此,当我们在基督里蒙恩之后,我们要重新认识自己,在基督里恢复尊贵的心灵,但也同时重视神已经安放在我们身上的条件,以至寻求圣灵的引导使用这些条件,在思想、情感、意志、行为上活出基督,使荣耀归于神。这样的信仰才是无可厚非的。在今天经文里,我们看见保罗将一个非常机要的警戒给予腓立比信徒,叫他们弃绝来自“犹太教师”那消除福音功效的教导。这类教师的教导主张人必需遵守旧约仪文的规条才能得救,专以人的意志与行为加添在救恩的本质,不然就是将神的救恩的一部分看为基督在十字架成就的大工,另一部分需要人的努力。对如此弯曲福音本意的教导,保罗显示了最激烈的对立。确实上,历史历代的异端邪说与极端教导都是来自人偏离了福音要道,加添人的因素在其中。这等一半靠神,一半靠人的教导根本是人所制造,要体贴人性的教义。那是属乎地,属乎肉体的,不是那独一存有天上荣光的属灵之恩。倘若保罗不重复纠正这等错误的教导,信徒渐渐会进到律法的规章与仪式主义来敬拜跟从神。这等信仰虽能显出外在的优秀,但内心却是死的,也是神不喜悦的。确实上,福音的结论是要人顺着圣灵行,以新造与活泼的心灵跟从主,在肉身上时常效法主耶稣的死,以至在生活中将主的生显明出来。也至于这点,信徒身上的背景、条件、经历、前途都当一同与基督活过来,被看为尊贵与荣耀,本为福音所使用。再者,信徒的善行也显示他心灵因信(基督)的变化。那不是靠人意带来外貌上的敬虔,乃是领会了敬虔的实意所彰显的基督美德。
Is man’s action important? Is man’s condition important? Some regard these as the standard of dignity and blessings, while some completely deny the needs and uses of these. But what is the perspective we need to restore in these areas through the word of God? In fact, man’s actions and condition absolutely cannot become the standard of receiving grace and blessings before God, because it’s completely through the grace of God that we’re made righteous, and continuously be sanctified through this grace <1:6>. Actually, the receiving of grace and salvation, having confidence, zealousness, love, wisdom etc come from the One who shows mercy, it is Him who works in saints to will and to act according to His good purpose <2:13>. Therefore, after we’ve received grace in Christ, we need to know ourselves all over again, restore the dignified spirit in Christ and value the conditions God has given unto us, to the extent of seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance in using these conditions so that we can live out Christ in our minds, emotions, will and actions, giving glory unto God. Such faith is upright and blameless. Through today’s scripture, we see that Paul gave the Philippi believers a very important warning by asking them to abandon the teaching from the “Jewish teachers” that stop the work of gospel. The teachings of such teacher advocate that people have to follow the old way of the written codes from old testament in order to be saved, adding man’s determination and actions to the original nature of salvation; also, some may regard God’s salvation as partially the great work Christ had completed on the cross and partially man’s effort. Paul showed the most intense opposition toward such teachings that distorted the original intent of gospel. In fact, history of heresies and extreme teachings arose because man had deviated from the mainstream of gospel, adding man’s factors into it. The teaching that advocates half is from God, half is from man is created by man to accommodate the doctrines of humanity. This belongs to earth and flesh, not the spiritual grace that is absolute, containing the glory of the heaven. If Paul did not repeatedly correct such false teachings, believers will gradually enter into the regulations of laws and ritualism in worshipping and following God. Although such faith may display the external goodness, the heart is dead and not pleasing to God. Actually, the conclusion of gospel is to lead man into living by the Spirit and follow God with the newly created and versatile heart, imitate Lord Jesus Christ’s death in flesh to the extent of showing the resurrection of Lord in our daily living. As such, the background, conditions, experiences and future of believers should also be made alive with Christ, these are dignified and glorious, all can be used for the gospel. Moreover, the good works of believers reveal the transformation in the spirit through faith (Christ). This is not the outward godliness through man’s determination but the virtue of Christ displayed after knowing the true essence of godliness.
