Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

More often than not, we tremble and fear when we learn that in following God, we need to take the narrow path, we need to die to self etc. Today, through the story in John 6, we realise that even the disciples who had been following Jesus chose to leave Him when they learnt that following Jesus is much more than the having their desires met. Jesus told them in all honesty that in following Him, they do not receive the tangible things [loaves that fill them up, quick liberation from the current problems they’re facing etc] but Jesus, the bread of life [something deeper than what our naked eyes can realize].

God has always been telling us - You are worth more than what your eyes can see. And I lead you in greater ways than you can imagine, therefore, don’t let what that can be seen to fill your up, instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit and the Truth, because God already had our well being in His considerations.

It’s never the intention of God to give us a religion of Christianity, He gives us the complete gospel. Through the message today, may we once again examine ourselves if our faith has at times slipped into a “protocolized” living, going through the motion while not knowing God’s heart in all things. Instead, we pacify our conscience by thinking we are following God if we give tithes, attend church meetings and have never committed grave sins. It may also seem simpler and easier to do the works rather than seeking and listening to Lord in everyday living.

No wonder gospel is the hardest teaching of all, because unless God enables one to soften their hardened heart, no one will come to God and follow Him. The enabling power of God put a new heart and a new spirit in you, so that you will consistently know His will and have the ability to walk His way by relying on the power of Holy Spirit dwelling in you.

May Lord bring us to deeper examination of our faith and tear down the religious nature inside us. The gospel that God gives us is to bring us into relationship with God, and this relationship deepens and advances as we enjoy talking (praying) and walking with God more and more.

Lets restore a prayerful heart to truly meet God in all things and in all seasons!
