倘若我们对全人类的根本问题不清楚,我们绝对不会领会福音的普世救赎性质(所谓普世救赎性质就是全人类都需要被救赎,也足以能被拯救)。今天,有些人讲的福音似乎是只能改善一些人的道德观念,有些是给人一些高尚的学问,有的是满足人情感方面的需要,有些是给予人一些新的敬虔生活方式,或是给人暂时的解脱等,但真正的福音是能够拯救人的灵魂,将人的心思、情感、欲望,良知、意志都全然拯救。事实上,人要经历福音的荣耀转则点(被带入恩典,与神和好)绝不能单以人性的范围来体会神的爱。人必需被带到他认识福音之前的那等测底堕落的样子,纵然他很难体感到那是一个怎样的堕落,但他必需从真理认识那是怎样的光景,是何等真实的事实,之后才继续越来越发现基督救赎的伟大,而这救赎不仅是自己需要,万人也都需要。今天,我们很多信了主之人的问题就是常常遗忘我们堕落的光景,一旦信了主,就对那曾经堕落的光景失去知觉,被套在一种以恩典为自满的光景。以此,我们很快就误以为我们与过去堕落的光景脱了节。没错!圣经说:「在基督里,我们是新人,旧事已过,都变成新的了」。但是我们不要认为这个新人和将要过的新生活是不需对自己堕落的本性有意识的。相反的,我们必需要明白罪持续所带来的影响,这旧人(肉体)常常要掌控生命主权的实在,与撒旦常常引诱欺骗我们的事实。这一切都是属灵的现实,也是我们新生的灵魂必需清楚意识的。在这点上,我们时常会看见圣经伟人的谨慎与通达之心。大卫说:“我的罪常在我面前...我在母胎时就有了罪”;保罗蒙恩之后,仍旧说:“立志行善由得我,行出来由不得我...我真是苦啊!”所以,我们要真实认识福音的普世救赎性质,那不是一种宗教概念的学说。那乃是当我们认识了福音真理之后,我们必需透过反复的确认来认识普世人的堕落性质,不论是男女老少,尊贵或卑贱,聪明或愚拙,好人或歹人,或者是任何的人种民族,他们里头都有罪根,以致不由自主的受到罪的影响。当圣经说:“一个义人都没有”,这是普世人都已经陷入的现实光景(原罪,罪根)。我们不能将这句话范围化,认为某些人糟透,某些人还可以;或某些人真该死,该受刑罚,某些人却对人类有贡献,不值得遭受这么严重的判决。相反的,我们要透过圣经去认识、体会、确认人不义的光景,然后将人带到他对原有堕落的认识,他才能接纳神的恩典。所以,保罗在《罗5:20》说:“罪在哪里显多,恩典就更显多了”。这句话并非说人的罪显多,才算多。乃是人生命的本质就有罪,但若不将它显多,人绝不会看到自己对救赎的需要。所以,圣经说:“律法使人知罪”,以此将人带到恩典面前。
If we are unclear of the original problem of men, we will never understand the universal redemptive nature of gospel (universal redemptive nature means all men need to be saved and can be saved). Today, the gospel that some talks about seem to better some moral values only; some give very noble knowledge; some are able to satisfy the needs of emotions; some leads people into certain new methods of living that appear pious; or some give people temporal liberation etc. But true gospel is one that saves the souls of men, it saves the thoughts, emotions, desires, conscience and will of men. Actually, men need to experience the turning point of the glory of gospel (being led into grace, reconcile with God), they cannot merely understand God’s love through the limit of their humanity. Men need to be brought into recognizing how utterly depraved they were before gospel came to them, while they may not feel how fallen they had been, but they need to come to realize what kind of state they were through the gospel, a truthful reality. After that, men start to discover how great Christ’s redemption is – this not only needed by him but all men. Today, the problem faced by many believers is that they’ve forgotten how fallen they had been, losing the awareness of the once fallen state after believing in Christ, and subsequently, they are trapped in a self-contented state because of the grace. Because of this, we easily misunderstand that we have completely disconnected from our fallen past. Indeed! The bible said, “[If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come, the old has gone, the new is here]. But we never assume this new creation and new living that is coming as the reason of not being conscious of our depraved nature. Instead, we ought to understand the persistent influence that sin brings, this old person (flesh) is always controlling the sovereignty in life, and the truth is Satan is always tempting and deceiving us. These are all spiritual realities, something we, the newborn souls, need to be aware of. We always see how the great characters in bible had such a cautious and understanding heart. David said, “ my sin is always before me…sinful from the time my mother conceived me”; as Paul received blessings, he still said, “ For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.. what a wretched man I am!” Therefore, we need to truly know the universal redemptive nature of gospel, it is not just a religious doctrine. Instead, after knowing the truth of gospel, we have to recognize the depraved nature of men through repeated confirmation, be it men or women , noble or humble , intelligent or foolishness, good or bad people, or any tribes, they all have the root of sin in them and are influenced by sins involuntarily. When the bible said, “there is no one righteous, not even one”, this is the reality that men of this world have fallen into (original sin, original root). We cannot restrict the essence of this sentence, thinking some people are horrible while some are better off; or some people are really deserving of death and punishment, while some have made contribution to mankind and thus should not bear such a heavy punishment. Instead, we need to know, relate, and confirm the state of unrighteousness of men through the bible and lead men into the knowledge of their inherent depravation, for only then can men accept the grace of God. Hence, as Paul said in <Ro 5:20>, “where sin increased, grace increased all the more”. This scripture is not to imply that men’s sin are indeed great when there’re many sins, rather, it is to say that the original nature of life is in sin. If not magnified, men will absolutely not see the need for redemption. Therefore, the bible said, “through the law we become conscious of sin”, and thus bring men into grace.
