It is necessary for us to learn the truth, but we also need to confirm if we can exercise the authority from above. Actually many believers in church today still remain in various problems. We may attend the weekly meetings, but our spirits are often invaded by incorrect thoughts, accepting wrong voices uncontrollably, and thus enter into pessimistic states such as fear, inferiority, self-pity, guilt, anger, frustration, hopelessness and etc. They are desired by many desires within them, making them unable to do things they are willing to do; or enter into states like anxiety, restlessness, frustration etc because of environmental factors. In a family, the parents are clueless in dealing with children; couples are unable to help, complement, and strengthen each other because of their mutual weaknesses. In this realistic society, people pray in the name of Jesus while being filled with woes and worries from the world simultaneously. Towards Gentiles, we may feel tied at hands at times; pagan forces seem to be growing, and we often lack courage and wisdom as we face them, not to say evangelizing to them. If this is our current state of faith, we need to be upright and ask ourselves, “Have I used the authority that God has given me?”  Is the authority mentioned in <Jn 1:12> <Mt 10:1> connected with my life, and if I have often exercised them? On a spiritual level, there is certain spiritual structure and principle that cannot be changed. Just as Jesus in <Mt 10:24>, “The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master.” Here, it talks about the invisible authority. What is emphasized here is “position” not capability. Maybe a student may accumulate more knowledge than the teacher, but he will never overtake the teacher in position. No matter how knowledgeable the student has become, he has to obey the instruction from teacher. A servant can be more capable than the master, but he needs to obey the command from the master too. Similarly, when Lord Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world,” “all authority from heaven and on earth have been given me”, hence we do not need to be fearful, neither are we threatened by the practical issues nor pressured by the situations or words of men which seem so real. Also, we shall not feel inferior or helpless because of our lack of gifts, talent, or successes; instead, ask, “how can I connect to the authority that is already in Christ?” We have to keep on integrating with this authority in our spirit in our equipping, learning, serving, complementing our spouses, raising children, using of gifts etc. If not, we cannot release the effect of that which we already have – we often accumulate knowledge as we hear the Word, but we lack the power that ought to be exercised from knowing them. Therefore, despite our presence, the people around us cannot be saved, or liberated from fear, troubles, unrest, various hardships or entanglement of sin. Actually, what a believer needs most is authority. Only as we connect to the authority given through Lord Jesus can our thoughts, speeches, and action carry power. In this world, there are myriads of fallen culture and information that rob people away; plenty of tempting experiences which influence our spirit; only when we are integrated in the authority from Christ can we be more than conquerors in this end times, and finish the great mission that God is doing through us.
