We have enemies in our faith. Hence, in Paul’s letters, he always instructed and advised the believers to be careful. Actually, knowing the truth and being careful because of the truth are different. Many have read the bible, yet they are not smart, neither do they have a discerning heart against the lies and forces of evil. If we see the church’s growth over past 50 years (today, the most rapidly growing ones are Africa – 4.8 billion; China – 1 billion; Indonesia – 45 million), believers are getting complacent, and take the evil that blinds the heart lightly. Indeed, Paul always asked believers to know the enemy at the spiritual level. <Ep 6:12> clearly reminds us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers the authorities, the powers of this dark world and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. <2 Ti 3:1-5> tells us that there will be terrible times in the last days. The danger is not that which can be seen on the outside, but the speeding and hideous corruption of humanity. Because it is hidden, it seeps into the church, confusing the believers, causing the truth they preach and believe in to be distorted, and thus de-natured the faith. Actually, the increasing quantity but decreasing quality is happening now. Hence, in western countries, we see that Christian faith is gradually reaching a bottleneck. When people receive the truth, not only are they not in awe, they lose the appetite for it. This is the beginning of self-exaltation and walking towards the path of inability to repent. Hence, evil will slowly increase, and the final judgment will soon come. Where do these signals begin? These begin from the church. Hence, the power of antichrist is surely against the church. It seeks to confuse the believers, diluting the central message (Christ) in church, and causing the believers to unable experience the great power of the Holy Spirit. Actually, when we are being led into a type of “comfortable faith” (the faith that serves to satisfy our own appetites), we will be increasingly unable to find the Holy Spirit who works in our hearts so that we can do God’s perfect will. What is our own ideals vs the intention of Holy Spirit? What is serving God in our own convenience and carry the Cross daily and follow the Lord? These two are getting blurred, and believers cannot distinguish them. We witness how Christianity grow most rapidly in places where persecutions take place (Eg Middle East), and such growth are in their quality and quantity. Hence, believers like us who live in developed countries need to be cautious. We ① need to keep pursuing the truth; ② to always meet God in prayer, so that our spirit has the power and wisdom of godliness; ③ place ourselves in challenges of serving and evangelism. Although we cannot prevent the dangerous days and things that stumble us, God promised that He will have the ultimate victory. Actually, we are currently living in a very critical moment. From a spiritual angle, the best and the worst moments are happening together. When we see this era, indeed we see the realities of how believers are growing but the de-naturing of Christian faith is also happening.
