当我们问那在教会里的人说“你信上帝吗?”,我们大致上都会听到他们说:“我信了”。确实,有些是真信,有些是假信;有些是清楚的信,有些是糊涂的信;有些是以自己正在进行的基督徒形式举动来假设自己已信了,有些是已经享受在信心里行善的秘诀(因为信了,所以神的义在他心中运行,使他立志行善)。其实,人心很诡诈,有时连我们自己都没有发现自己信心的根基是来自哪。那是神在我生命里所主动施行的工作,还是我以自己的功德继续要证明的?但《罗1:17》很清楚告诉我们神的义是「本于信,以至于信」,义人必因信得生。所以,一个人可以做出所有基督教的善行,但他也可能没有那被神称为义的信心,那他的生命与神的义无关,他最终无法得见主(不得救,也不得赏赐)。《弗 2:8》告诉说我们得救是本乎恩,因着信。但这信心不是那在暂时情绪所发动的信心,乃是「圣灵刻印的信心」。因为这信心是那看不见、摸不着的圣灵在祂的永恒性印在人的心,所以当人越是要以感觉来认清信心的事,他越是认识不了。其实,身体感到热腾腾、情绪很激动、流泪满面、哀哭切齿、等,都无法告诉你这信心是否已经领到了。相反的,那是当你冷静下来的时候,你才能开始确认“那不能失去的信心”是否已经临到你的生命了。那时,你因着信对神和祂的话语有新的渴慕,新的追求。你读了神的话有遵行的心和举动开始出现。你开始对罪产生敌意,对善产生爱意,而如此的新性情是你以前没有的。确实,这都是在你冷静下来之后才能确认到那已经临到你生命里的信心了。其实,这信心的临到是何等超自然的事,因为那不是人的劝诫或讲解所带来的,乃是神在祂的恩典中所赐下的信心。这样的信心一旦被确认之后,那就成为了我们在主面前被称为义的确据了。因为神说,“我们是义人”,我们是神不算为有罪的”。所以,这样的人下面要学习的是怎么与罪争战,怎么天天靠着圣灵治死身体的恶行,不是害怕自己又会犯罪而堕落,或是因犯罪又被定罪。其实,很多信徒是只有靠情感来过信仰生活,不是靠确据。靠情感的人是常纠结在:“噢,我又软弱犯罪了。噢,我心里不爱主,无心祷告读经,所以主也不爱我,不会祝福我”。他都是以情感与行为来断定神爱不爱他。但那靠确据的人是心里有肯定说:“为何我的心忧闷?为何我的心受试探?神是用笑脸帮助我…”。所以他会向那要侵入他的邪恶产生反击,因为他灵里已经有那“因信称义”的确据了。
When we ask people in church “do you believe in God?” we generally hear people saying, “I have believed.” Indeed, some truly believe, but some do not genuinely believe; some believe with clarity, while some believe with less clarity; some assume that he or she has believed because of the Christian routines or actions they are going through, while some are truly enjoying the secret of having works that come from true faith (having believed, the righteousness of God works in his heart causing him to will and do good). Men’s hearts are scheming, at times, even ourselves fail to understand the root of our faith. That is God’s proactive work in our life, or our own effort that we are trying to prove? <Ro 1:17> clearly tells us that God’s righteousness is [through faith to faith], the righteous will live by faith. Hence, a person may perform all kinds of Christian works, but it is also possible that he does not have the faith of being justified by God, thus his life is unrelated to God’s righteousness; eventually, he will not be able to see the Lord (unsaved, unrewarded). <Ep 2:8> tells us that our salvation is by grace, through faith. But this faith does not come from the transient emotional uproar, but [engraved by the Holy Spirit]. Because this faith is imprinted onto man’s heart by the invisible and untouchable Holy Spirit in His eternity, hence, the more we want to make sense of such faith through feelings, the more we cannot. Actually, the heating up of bodies, emotional uproar, tears, cries etc cannot tell us if we have received such faith. On the contrary, when you calm down, you can start to confirm if the “un-losable faith” has already come upon you. At that moment, because of faith, you start to desire God and His Word, and you start to have new pursuit. After reading God’s Word, you start to have the heart to obey and live it out. You start to have enmity towards sin and love kindness. Such disposition is absent prior to this. Indeed, you can only confirm this faith that has now come upon your life when you cool down. The coming of faith is actually a supernatural event, for it cannot be brought through men’s advices or explanation, but God gives it in His grace. Once we’re affirmed about our faith, it becomes the assurance of our justification before the Lord. God said, “we are righteous”, “we are not condemned by God”. Therefore, what we need to learn after this is to battle with sin, rely on the Holy Spirit to put to death the misdeeds of the body, not being afraid of falling into sin again, or not being afraid of condemnation when we sin. In fact, a lot of believers lead their Christian living by feelings instead of assurance. People who live by feelings are often trapped in “Sigh, I am weak and I’ve sinned again. Sigh, I do not love the Lord, I can neither pray nor read the Scripture, hence the Lord also does not love me and will not bless me”. He determines God’s love by his actions and feelings. But the person who lives with assurance will ask assuredly in his heart, “Why am I frustrated? Why is my heart tempted again? God is helping me with smiling face…” With this, he starts to counter-attack the evil that invades him, for he has already had the assurance of “justification by faith” in his spirit.
