「在世界,却不属世界」是基督教界里很有分量的说法,但却是许多信徒无法掌握的奥秘。往往,我们信徒会受到非信徒的批评说我们不实际,什么都说靠主靠信心,但却忽略了血肉之事。那对那太过实际的信徒,我们又会听见外邦人批评我们说我们其实好像狼披着羊毛,外面像是虔诚的基督徒,里头却是与世人一样势力。从传福音的角度来说,我们也看见有些信徒非常会讲说福音的道理,但他们言行、举止、生活带不出给人心服口服的一面。可能他的为人处事缺乏智慧,或是爱心,或是给人不自在的感觉。另外一方面,我们也会看见有些信徒尽量活出实际的一面,将好行为、善行、道德、积极的一面活出来,旁边的人因他的生命的确有所感动,但因为从来没有从他的口听说过有关福音的信息与见证,只是将他当做一个好人,心里感激,甚至羡慕他,但却不能因他说做的将荣耀归给主。所以,教会的信息总是处在这两难之间,不是偏属灵,不然就是偏实际;不是讲天上的信息,就是专讲地上的信息,却不能从天上的信息讲到地上,或说不能带出道成肉身的奥秘。有些信徒也因此提倡说我们要有平衡点,但试问这是平衡的问题吗?若是,要在哪里找到平衡点呢?其实,从我们提到的以上例子中,那些信徒的共同点在哪里?第一:他们都偏向自己所能做到的。有的信徒很喜欢讲就专门讲。有的很能做,连信主前在道德与行为上也比一般人相对好一些,所以就只做却不说。确实,当我们只有选择做自己能做的,我们就无法叫人看见那看不见的神和祂的能力;第二,他们都将自己限制在自己所知道的,却不求从神而来更高的智慧。智慧是进展性的,也是实际性的。智慧不属这世界但却是运行在这世界里,而那都是从敬畏与寻求神的心而来。所以我们听了一篇道,我们一定要问那道是否能应用在我们的生活中呢?那也就是我们从真道要寻求智慧的地方。确实,神里面有无穷的智慧,我们得不到是因为我们以所懂的先入为主。所以,在人所能所知的不能达到神的层面,但在神所能所知的却包括了人的层面,而神将真理启示我们就是要我们靠着圣灵能认识世界、进入世界与得胜世界。在此,让我们关键性的思考:人的宗教里头的道理(例如:因果)有真实性吗?有的。但是这智慧失去了源头(神),也不归荣耀给创造万有的神。它只能将人带到原理,却没有救赎,所以不能被视为人的希望或解决法。另外,积极心理学有道理吗?有的。因为这学问探测了人心里的一部分,也接触了人心里一些的障碍,但却是对人心本质性的问题(离开神,自我为主)毫无认识与对应。或说:我们看了一部很温馨的电影,讲到家人在一起一条心能排除各种患难。试问这感不感人呢?当然感人,这样的电影也值得看。但是我们一定要知道这是有真实性却没有绝对性。那绝对的是:我们家人之间爱,是因为神先爱我们。所以,这亲情是神所赐,也是人相爱的基本关系。但是,这亲情也是会受到考验,也是会遇到挫败的。所以,我们当在神里面向往更深切与绝对的爱。所以,「在世界,却不属世界」是一个大奥秘,那不单是一个贴切的道理,乃是我们要借着运行在心中的主来认识、操练,直到我们能活出来的奥秘。
[In the world yet not of the world] is a saying that carries weightage in Christian world, but it is also a mystery that many believers fail to grasp. Often, we believers receive criticisms from unbelievers that we are impractical, always proclaim that we need to depend on the Lord and have faith in all things, but neglect the matters of the flesh. To the believers who are too practical, we also hear Gentiles criticizing us to be hypocrites, that though we look like a devoted Christian, but innerly, we are no different from the worldly people and their thrusts. From evangelistic point of view, we have some believers who are very good in talking the gospel truth, but their actions, speech, and living fail to convince people. Perhaps he lacks wisdom in his dealing, or love, or gives out vibes that make people uncomfortable. On another side, we see some believers try to live out the practical side, living out the good conducts, deeds, morality, and positivity, and the people beside him are indeed moved by his life; but because he has never testified or talk about the gospel, people only see him as a good man, and are grateful or envious of him, not giving due glory to the Lord. Therefore, the pulpit message often toggles between these 2 difficulties, either it is too spiritual, or too practical; it either talks about the heavenly message, or the earthly message, yet it cannot connect the heavenly message to the earth, or fail to bring out the mystery of incarnation. Because of these, some believers suggest that we should strike a balance, but is this an issue of striking a balance? If it is, where should we balance it? Actually, from the examples mentioned above, what do we see in common among all these believers? Firstly: they often incline to what they can do. Those who are talkative will talk; some have actions, even before coming to faith, his moral conduct is already above common people, hence he only does and not speaks. Indeed, when we only choose what we can, others will not see God and His power through us; Secondly, they restrict themselves in what they know, not seeking the higher wisdom from God. Wisdom is progressive, and practical. Wisdom does not belong to the world but it moves in this world, and it comes to those who revere and seek God. When we hear a sermon, we need to ask if the sermon can be applied to our living? That is one area where we ought to seek wisdom from Gospel Truth. God’s wisdom is infinite, yet we do not receive it because we have a predetermined mindset based on what we know. What man can know or can do fail to reach God’s level, but what God knows and can do include those that are taking place in men, and thus reveal this truth to us, so that we can depend on the Holy Spirit to know the world, enter and thus overcome the world. In this, let’s think critically: is there some sort of relevance in religious teaching (Eg: karma)? Yes. But this wisdom has lost sight of its origin (God), and do not give glory to the God who creates all things. The religious teaching only brings people to principles, not redemption; hence, it cannot be seen has the hope and solution. Besides, is there some truth in positive psychology? Yes. For such knowledge explores into a section of human’s inner heart, and engage some hindrances in human’s hearts, but it does not know or respond to the problem intrinsic in human nature (depart from God, self-centered). Or: after watching a very heartwarming movie that talks about how a family can be one-hearted in overcoming various hardships – is it not touching? Certainly it is touching, and such movie is worth watching. But we need to know though real, it is not absolute. The absolutes are: the love between family starts from God who first loved us. Therefore, this kinship is given by God, and the basic from which man love one another. However, kinship can also be tested, and encounter failures. Hence, we ought to pursue the deeper and more absolute love in God. [In the world yet not of the world] is a great mystery, it is not just a relevant truth, rather, it is a mystery that we have to know, train ourselves in, until we can live it out, through the Lord who is working in our hearts.
