我们在服侍主的事情上都面临个别的难处。有时那难处来自我们所服侍的事项或对象。例如：有些事物非常繁杂，或是有些群人非常难牧养。有时服侍的难处来自我们个人心里的挣扎。有的人在服侍中很容易被自己的无能无助感影响，不然就是觉得自己所献上的服侍总是微不足道。确实，有时心里的问题是更难解决的，因为心里的问题一定是牵扯到我们服侍的能力和对象。当我们的心在服侍中面对不止息的挣扎时，我们不得不反问自己服侍的理由，或是质疑我们还能服侍多久，不然就是怀疑我们的服侍是否蒙主悦纳。所以，有的人在服侍中总会觉得累，或是想带着卸下服侍的想法。倘若我们的服侍是能造就我们的心，我们不会一直怀有这样的想法。确实，有的人与神的关系不好，无论做再多的服侍，心里总好像无法被神悦纳；另外也有的信徒在服侍中被一种的要求辖制。那要求可能来自人，或是自己的职分，或是自己的完美主义，这些要求叫他在服侍中无法从心里给主做，反倒很多时候是给人做；在就是有些人在服侍的时候因过度的热心，使周边的人感到非常的压力。这种种的服侍病态叫人无法在服侍中献上那美好的祭物，且会夺走在服侍中当享有的喜乐与祝福。保罗说：无论做什么，都要从心里做，像是给主做的，不是给人做的《西3:23》。所以，我亲爱的弟兄们，你们务要坚固，不可摇动，常常竭力多做主工，因为知道，你们的劳苦在主里面不是徒然的《林前15:58》。诗人也说：你们当乐意侍奉耶和华，当来向他歌唱《诗100:2》！其实，圣经里有很多有关侍奉主的应许与吩咐，例如：从心里做、竭力多做、乐意的做等。但是，若这些应许没有在我们心灵与生活中实现，服侍便成为一种的劳苦。倘若我们的服侍是继续失去恩典，那我们一定要回到我们与主的关系。当我们说“关系”，那也不是道理上我们知道自己是蒙爱的神儿女，而服侍主是理所当然的。“关系”，包括了关系带来的想法与心态，也少不了关系里的联结与交通。例如：我心里因爱主而服侍主，但有时我也需要与主深交，知道祂愿意我做的，以至不跨越祂所做的，且在服侍中从祂支取力量。有时关系里也包括完成使命。有些人当讲到关系时，总觉得自己心里要一直保持着很开心与兴奋的状态，才能有效的服侍主。其实也不然！打个比方，我也不需要我的妻子叫我的情感天天很开心与兴奋，才有能力服侍我的家庭。反倒是我身为家庭一份子且有为家庭当完成的职责，我唯有完成了我对家庭的使命，心里才满足喜乐。所以，有时我们服侍主的人也有可能在争战当中，像保罗服侍主当中经过劳苦、患难、困苦、软弱，可能这些的试炼也是我们在服侍主当中要承受的，要让人看见这位主怎么借着一个软弱的人成就美好的事，或者在这当中显出主在我们生命的忍耐与老练，不是那种幼嫩的服侍者，像是一旦忧闷就停止服侍。让我们学习我们主耶稣的榜样，像祂所说：“我父做事直到如今，我也做事。”唯有这样听从神的服侍才带有圣灵的恩惠，常常将“新酒”带出来。

We face individual difficulties in serving the Lord. Sometimes the difficulty comes from the subject matter in the serving or the people we work with. For example, some matters are very complicated, or some people are very difficult to shepherd. Sometimes the difficulty in serving comes from the struggles of our own hearts. Some people are easily affected by their incompetence and helplessness when they serve. If not, they feel that the serving they offer is always insignificant. Indeed, sometimes, it is even more difficult to resolve problems of the heart. Because, problems of the heart will definitely implicate the ability of our serving and the people we serve. If our hearts have unceasing struggles as we serve, we inevitably question ourselves the reason of our serving or how much longer we can serve. Or we will wonder if our serving is acceptable to the Lord. Therefore, some people will feel very tired as they serve, or have thoughts of stopping their serving. If our serving can edify our hearts, then we will not have such thoughts. Indeed, for some, their relationship with God is not good. Thus, regardless of how much they serve, they always feel that it is not acceptable by God; and there are believers whose serving is restricted by demands. The demands may come from people, their position, or their own perfectionism.  These demands make them unable to work for the Lord from their hearts, but instead work for others most of the time. Then again, some people are over-zealous when they serve, which cause the people around them to feel very pressurised. All these morbid states in serving not only result in people not being able to offer their beautiful sacrifices, but also steal away the joy and blessings of serving. Paul said, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters <Col 3:23>. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain <1Cor 15:58>.” The psalmist also said, “Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs!” <Ps 100:2> In fact, the Bible has many promises and instructions regarding serving. E.g. do with the heart, give fully to the work, do with gladness, etc. However, if these promises do not come true in our hearts and living, serving will become a form of hard work. If our serving continuously results in us losing grace, then we ought to go back to our relationship with the Lord. When we talk about “relationship”, it is not just knowing in theory that we are beloved children of God and serving is a natural thing to do. “Relationship” comprises the thoughts and mindset that come along with the relationship, as well as the connection and communication in the relationship. E.g. I serve because I love the Lord from my heart. But there are times when I also need to have deep conversation with the Lord, so as to know what He wants me to do and not go beyond His works, and also to gain strength from Him as I serve. Sometimes, relationship also includes to complete the mission. When talking about relationship, some people always feel to be efficient in serving the Lord, they have to maintain a state of joyfulness and excitement when they serve. Actually, there is no such need! For example, my wife does not have to make me emotionally happy and excited daily, before I have strength to serve my family. On the contrary, as part of the family, I have tasks to complete for my family. Only when I have finished the mission towards my family, can my heart be filled with joy. Therefore at times, we who serve the Lord, may be in a battle like how Paul been through labour, tribulations, hardships, and weaknesses. Perhaps, these are trials that we need to bear when we serve the Lord, so that others may see how this Lord can accomplish beautiful things through a person’s weaknesses. Or in these trials, we display the Lord’s perseverance and character through our lives, and not be like those young and weak servants who stop serving once troubled. Let us learn from the Lord Jesus, our role model, just like what He said, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” Only when we serve by “listening to God”, can there be the grace of the Holy Spirit and we can always “bring out new wine”.
