If we live with an “assured heart”, we can enjoy the infinite blessings from God! From the moment we confirm that we are greatly loved, we can see God’s love in all things. If we are certain that whatever we think, say, do now is pleasing to God, and will be effective, then we can instantly see the authority, power, wisdom and gifts from the throne of God coming upon our lives and living. An “assured heart” is a mystery of the spirit that is hard to fathom. However, if we master it based on solid foundation, we will enjoy the power and wisdom of “God fulfilling all things for me”. Paul not only knew God’s word, but through the word of God, he also affirmed how God loved him, used him, helped him, answered him, fulfilled for him in his entire life. Thus, his footsteps were brought from Damascus all the way to Jerusalem, Antioch, Little Asia, Macedonia, Achaia, and Rome. Although he met many sufferings, persecutions, setbacks in his life, received bad reputation, was put in prisons, met great storms, etc, the assured heart within him gave him constant comfort, protection, so that he was more than conquerors in tribulations. Therefore, we know that the authority in man’s life does not come from his position, gifts or achievements, but from the assured heart given by the Holy Spirit through the word (perfect will) of God. But this assured heart does not come from man’s courage or self-confidence, but it comes when a person truly sees Jesus Christ as the greatest treasure and is willing to die and resurrect together with Him, and seeks His perfect will and follow throughout his life. If a person receives God’s perfect will to follow God and thus receives the “assured heart”, the Lord’s blessings and rewards are apparent. Such a person will discover that in Christ, it has always been “yes”. No matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. Once the Lord’s perfect will is received and submitted to, it will be fulfilled! The background to today’s scriptures is about Paul changing his trip to the church of Corinth, being convicted by the Holy Spirit after writing the first book of Corinthians. Initially, Paul heard news about the church of Corinth and thought of going straight to Corinth to put the entire church in order, before proceeding to Macedonia, and subsequently return to Corinth. But after writing the first book to them, Holy Spirit convicted him, to ask Paul to give them time to repeatedly ponder and repent and renew. Thus, Paul changed his itinerary and decided to first visit Macedonia, then to the church of Corinth, to spend the winter with them (sufficient time together). Some carnal believers thus criticised him as being fickle-minded. Paul heard about this and used this chance to teach the church about how he was guided by the Holy Spirit in this matter.
