苦难在这堕落的世界是一个现实。纵然人都不想谈到自己或人生的问题,但人不能否认自己是继续活在问题中,也终日在找寻怎么解决自己的问题、家庭的问题、社会的问题、世界的问题等。今天,教会也越来越少谈到苦难的课题,号称基督已经跨胜仇敌,所以不要再看问题,乃只看十字架。试想,这是否是一种麻醉信徒灵魂的教导?试问,当我们仰望十字架的时候,我们先看到什么?我们是先看到我们的罪,之后看到神伟大的救赎,然后明白为何天天要将自己的肉体钉在十字架上的必要。在这当中,我们对今生的苦难才有很深层的领会。当教会不将苦难和苦难的意义讲明时,信徒其实是越来越脱离现实,他们也越来越不明白炼净是什么。他们只懂得向神求祝福,但十字架最深沉的意义却是显示了苦难与炼净的精神。《亚13:9》「(神要)熬炼他们如熬炼银子,试炼他们如试炼金子。他们必求告我的名,我必应允他们。」为何神应允祂的百姓之前是要先熬练他们呢?因为他们所求的完全是以他们的私欲出发,是残害他们生命的。试问,今天的信徒是否是不想忍耐就想得到,不想顺服就想得胜。其实,我们是已经活在一个有苦难的世界里。当我们崇拜一结束,我们马上要面对生活的挑战与情欲的辖制。我们能逃避试炼这关吗?当现今世代的人越来越不想谈到苦难与试炼的课题时,那只显示两样事实。第一,那显示了人性的骄傲越来越走到极限,不愿面对人堕落之后的现实与人的无能,唯有天天往好的方面想象和追求。其实,这样的人是相信自己的聪明、意志、感受过于神的救赎;第二,那显示人越来越不能爱。试问:没经过苦难的人会认识什么叫爱吗?恐怕他只认识什么叫自我。连一个女人要生出孩子,她都要经过10个月的怀胎与生产之苦,之后在性情中才能生出母爱。当人汗流满面才得糊口时,他才能体恤人的劳苦,为人设想。没错,世人都会说“我们相爱吧!”表面看起来像是爱。例如:婚姻之爱,亲情之爱、社群之爱、博爱等,但在根底是一个“我”字。所以我们会看见现代之人的爱不能长久,关系不能深入,也经不起考验。为何如此呢?因为没有受过炼净,那所出发的爱都是没有死去自我,那都会带有人的本性和里头的动机与方便去爱,不能达到舍己的意义。所以,当教会只讲到十字架的跨胜却不讲十字架的苦难时,信徒的心里面慢慢会生出一种“隐藏的骄傲”与“自我出发的爱”。那里头毫无保罗那常常以恐惧战兢活在神面前的心《腓2:12》。那里头毫无保罗悖论的经历:「似乎忧愁,却是常常快乐的;似乎贫穷,却是叫很多人富足的;似乎一无所有,却是样样都有的」《林后6:10》。所以,在此让我们也不要误以为苦难与炼净就是叫信徒成为优优愁愁,毫无喜乐的人。那在主里的苦难与炼净乃是治死我们的私欲,使我们成为一个真能以主为满足,也以遵行主为乐的信徒。
Suffering is a reality in this world. Although many do not like to talk about their personal or life issues, we cannot deny that we are indeed remaining in problems, and are spending our times finding solutions to our own problems, the family, societal problems, and the world’s problems etc. Today, the church is touching less on the topic of suffering, claiming that Christ has overcome the enemy, hence do not dwell on the problems but look to the Cross. Try thinking; is it not a teaching that only numbs the soul of believers? When we look to the Cross, what do we see first? We see our own sins first, and then God’s great redemption, and thus understand why do we need to nail our flesh on the Cross everyday. In this, we have deeper understanding of the trials and hardship of this life. When the church does not speak clearly about the meaning behind trials and hardships, believers will be separated from the reality more and more, and increasingly, they do not understand what is refinement. They only know how to ask blessings from God, but the deepest meaning of the Cross reveals the spirit of hardship and refinement. <Zec 13:9> [God will put this third into the fire, and refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold is tested. They will call upon my name, and I will answer them.] Why did God insist to test them before answering them? This is because the perfection they are seeking for comes from their personal desires, and that will destroy their lives. Try asking, are not believers today looking to gain without the need to go through endurance, and desire victory without submission? Actually, we are already living in a world full of hardships. When our worship ends today, we will face the life challenges and the force of our desires immediately. Can we escape from being tested? When people of modern era avoid talking about hardships and tests, it only shows two truths. Firstly, it shows that the pride in humanity is reaching the extreme, as they are unwilling the face the reality and powerlessness of men after the fall. They only imagine the good stuff and pursue those good areas. Actually, such people believe in their own intelligence, will, and feelings more than the redemption of God. Secondly, it shows that man increasingly cannot love. Try asking: will people who have yet to go through hardships know what is love? They might only know what is self-centeredness. Even as a woman gives birth to a child, she needs to go through 10 months of pregnancy and then the laboring pain, giving rise to a motherly love in her temperament. When men try to earn a living through great hard work, only then can he appreciate the hard work of others, and think of others. Certainly, the world often says “let’s love!” On the surface, it looks like love. For example: the love of marriage, the love of kinship, love in the society, universal love etc, but at the root of it all, it is “me”. Thus, we see the phenomenon of love in modern times that gets unsustainable, the relationship does not deepen, and cannot stand the test. Why is it so? Because without being tested, the self-centeredness in our love is not put to death. We bring the motives and convenience in our humanity to love, thus we cannot reach the self-sacrificial love. When the church only talks about the triumph of Cross yet not avoid talking about the hardship of the Cross, the heart of believers will slowly give rise to a kind of “hidden pride” and “self-initiated love”. Such love lacks the fearful and trembling heart that Paul always brought before God <Php 2:12>. Such love also lacks the paradoxical experience which Paul had, “sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything <2 Co 6:10>”. Therefore, we should not have wrong assumption that hardship and sufferings only make believers sorrowful or strip off their joy. The hardships and trials in the Lord will put to death our personal desires, such that we become believers who truly delight in the Lord, and rejoice in obeying the Lord.
