很多信徒对教会的建立、运作、成长带着假象。他们以为人都很端正、礼貌，运作非常有规律与系统，像是一间公司里面的运作一样。所以，一走进教会就盼望看到这样美好的景象，一旦在一起服侍就希望样样有条有理。当然，这是终极的结果，也是我们应该往着的方向，但是若我们带着这样的理想，必定要大失所望。主的教会是主的群羊组成的。主用祂的性命救赎了这群属于祂的群羊，而这群羊从世界被拯救时都怀着罪性所带有的软弱体质。他们都有瘦弱与不合群的一面。所以当我们的大牧者拯救了我们之后，便用真道成圣我们，透过教导与牧养，使我们强健。在这当中，我们也在彼此服侍与磨合中不断的认识主的慈悲，且对付自己（得医治）。我们不能盼望世界一套很有规模与效力的运作在教会里。若是这样，教会就渐渐少了人性真实的一面。如同我们在家庭里，孩子不是父母一讲就会听。他们总是有不规律的习惯，也有需要被教训的时候。但是一出外工作就需要打起精神，谨慎的办事。所以，在一间教会被建立与成长时，我们唯有守着纯正的福音，往着爱神与爱人的方向走去，但我们不能规划教会的种种运作形态。有的人做起事情太主动，有的太被动，这两者在处事必有冲突。有的做起事情有条理，有的做起事情很凌乱。这两者必要磨合。有的有心付出但事情做的不好，有的能办事但没心付出。在此我们也不能要求完善，因为这毕竟是善工，是羡慕善工的人自愿付出，所以每个人的责任感也必有底线。所以，当我们越投入教会的生活和服侍，就会发现越多不完美的地方，但也就是在这些服侍当中，我们放下面具，真实的认识彼此，也坦诚的对待彼此，且在当中学习彼此相爱的功课。当然，这也包括我们需要得医治之处。有的人总是将事情做一半，没有处理到底；有的人只有将自己分内的做好，但不多付出；有的只有因事物为中心，但忘了同工之人的感受。这些都是主在炼净我们之处，使我们能学习这世界的人不能学习的恩典和智慧。但是教会难道一直要处在不完美的光景吗？不然！在我们继续将神的道传扬清楚，主会将服侍者兴起来补足教会的欠缺。这如同在初代教会七个执事被兴起来管理饭食。但这不代表教会就会有一种理想的完善规模。新的事物总是会有，新的群人总是会来到，新的需求总是会出现。很多教会就是将各样事物规模化，将事物的东西分的清清楚楚，划清界限。其实，这样一来，教会弟兄姐妹的素质就不会成长了。这好比说：教会有儿童、年轻人、成年人、老年人的事工，也有各样事务性的事工的负责人（例如：饭食、清洁、招待等）。其实，有生命素质的服侍者都会为彼此想。每个人各尽其职，但最后一定要建立基督的身体，将主的道没有拦阻的被传扬。试问我们要建立一个怎样的教会呢？那是带有世界的理想，还是主在圣经里向我们显明的呢？

Many believers have wrong illusions about the setting up of a church, its operations and growth. They think that people in church must be proper, courteous, operations must be orderly and systematic like that of an organisation. Hence, when they step into a church, they hope to see such a wonderful sight. Once they start to serve together, they also hope to see things done methodically. This is definitely the eventual outcome and also the direction we should aim to achieve. But when we have such ideals, we will definitely be greatly disappointed. The Lord’s church is formed by the Lord’s sheep. The Lord used His life to give salvation to those who belong to Him, and when these sheep were saved from the world, they carry with them the weak nature brought by sin. They have their side of weakness and cannot get along with others. Therefore, after our Great Shepherd saves us, He uses His word of Truth to sanctify us and strengthen us through His teachings and shepherding. In the midst, we continue to know about the Lord’s mercy, deal with ourselves (and receive healing) through serving and sharpening one another. We cannot hope that the model and efficiency of this world can operate in the church. If so, the church will gradually lose the side of true human nature. Similarly, in a family, children may not always listen to their parents. They will have their unruly habits and times when they need to be disciplined. But once we go out to work, we need to keep up our spirits and do our work carefully. Therefore, when a church is being set up and grows, we only need to be guided by the pure gospel and move in the direction of loving God and men. But we cannot plan every of the church’s operations. There are some who are active and others who are passive when doing work. There will be conflicts between them. Some are very systematic while some are more disorganised. These two must smoothen out the friction. There are also people who put in their heart but things do not work out well, and others who are productive but do not put in their heart. Hence, we cannot demand for perfection because this is after all noble task and those who desire a noble task will voluntarily contribute. Therefore, everyone’s sense of responsibility has its own limit. Thus, the more we get involved in church living and serving, we will discover more and more areas with imperfection. But it is also in such serving that we put down our masks and truly know one another, be sincere towards each other and in the process, learn how to love one another. However, this will include personal healing for every one of us. Some people tend to do things halfway and not ensure that the work is completed. There are also those who just do well in what they have been assigned but do not do more. Some are task-oriented but forgot to take into consideration the feelings of co-workers. These are the areas in which the Lord wants us to be refined, so that we can learn about grace and wisdom which people of the world are not able to learn. But does that mean that the church must continue to be in an imperfect state? Definitely not! When we continue to spread the word of God clearly, the Lord will raise up people to serve Him to make up for the deficiencies of the church. This is similar to the early church where seven deacons were raised to look into the daily distribution of food. But this does not mean that the church would have a kind of idealistic or perfect model. There will always be new things, new groups of people will continue to come in, and new requests will surface. Many churches would come up with different systems to handle different things, to ensure fair distribution of work and define boundaries. Actually, when this continues, the quality of the brethren in church will not grow. This is like saying, the church has children, youth, adult and elderly ministries, and various other types of duties and ministries with different persons-in-charge (e.g. food, cleanliness, ushering etc). Actually, those who serve with the quality of life will definitely be thoughtful towards others. Everyone does their part, but eventually must build up the body of Christ, and ensure that the word of the Lord is spread without obstacles. What kind of church do we want to build? Is it one that has the world’s ideals or one that the Lord revealed to us in the Bible?
